Academic Works and Achievements of the Department

The research interests of the lecturers are mainly connected with the specialisation of the department and cover a wide range of issues in the methodology of teaching foreign languages, terminology studies, phraseology and translation studies. The lecturers of the department take part in international and all-Ukrainian conferences, round tables and research-methodological seminars, namely: the International Conference «Мова-література-мистецтво: когнітивно-семіотичний інтерфейс» (Kyiv), the All-Ukrainian Round Table «Сучасні когнітивні студії: програма міждисциплінарних досліджень» (Kyiv), the International Academic Conference «Мова і культура» named after Prof. Serhii Buraho (Kyiv), the International Academic Conference «Проблеми зіставної семантики» (Kyiv), «Когнітивна лінгвістика в міждисциплінарному контексті: теорія і практика» (Cherkasy), the All-Ukrainian Academic Conference «Актуальні проблеми сучасної філології та культурології: постмодерністська парадигма» (Khmelnytskyi), the International Research-Methodological Seminar «Розвиток порівняльної професійної педагогіки у контексті глобалізаційних та інтеграційних процесів» (Kyiv–Khmelnytskyi), «Актуальні проблеми філології та перекладознавства» (Khmelnytskyi) and others. The research achievements of the department staff are discussed at the annual reporting academic conference of the teaching staff and postgraduate students of Khmelnytskyi University of Management and Law. Creative teams that prepare manuals and textbooks work actively at the department; in particular, the monograph «Засоби вираження модальності в текстах кодексів України» has been published, as well as the manuals «Англійська мова для правників» and «Англійська мова для менеджерів (частина І)», an English explanatory dictionary of legal terms, a dictionary of the Latin language (based on the academic discipline «Римське право»), and the manual «A Reading Skills Book» (based on J. Grisham’s «Theodore Boone: The Abduction»). The lecturers of the department actively encourage talented students to present reports on their research achievements at the annual All-Ukrainian scientific and practical student conference on foreign languages «Foreign languages in use: academic and professional aspects». Students take an active part in the annual university foreign language olympiad. The lecturers of the department review dissertations and dissertation abstracts, take part in preparing expert opinions, etc.

General informationLinguocultural and Literary Studies is a creative academic platform for students of philology and for everyone who wishes to deepen their knowledge of the culture, language and literature of English-speaking countries. Members of the club immerse themselves in the linguocultural features of English-speaking nations, explore literary and journalistic texts, and develop skills of intercultural communication, critical thinking and analytical work with texts.
The club is supervised by Associate Professors of the Linguistics DepartmentOlha Oleksandrivna Rembach and Iryna Mykolaivna Kustovska.
Objective of the club
To promote the development of students’ foreign language communicative and cultural competences, as well as their analytical, creative and research skills in the field of linguocultural and literary studies.Tasks:
- improving language, communicative and intercultural competences;
- becoming familiar with the cultural, literary and social realities of English-speaking countries;
- keeping up with the latest developments in the literature of the English-speaking world;
- studying the linguistic features of authors’ language, stylistics and language devices in literary texts;
- analysing linguistic and stylistic devices in the context of linguocultural research;
- taking part in linguocultural and literary quizzes, language competitions, debates, cultural, academic and educational events both within the university and beyond it.
- developing skills of critical analysis of English-language texts;
- developing academic and creative writing skills;
- mastering work with authentic sources;
- creating one’s own media texts (posts, articles, reviews, presentations).Main areas of work
Linguocultural studies:
- in-depth study of the history, culture and social features of English-speaking countries through work with authentic texts and media;
- critical analysis of historical, cultural and intercultural materials in order to reveal linguistic and cultural patterns;
- developing skills of interpretation, critical thinking and informed comparative analysis of intercultural phenomena.
Literary studies:
- studying the history and contemporary development of English-language literature;
- analysing works by classical and contemporary authors;
- discussing the stylistics, genres and thematic features of texts.
Creative and research projects:
- creating student columns, blogs and thematic sections;
- taking part in flash mobs, literary and cultural events;
- student readings, meetings with writers, translators and journalists.Forms and types of work

First-year students joined the social and cultural project «Від бою до полотна»
On 3 November 2025, the Taras Shevchenko cinema hosted a screening of the film «Народжені, щоб жити» about four veterans with disabilities — Vadym Ziablitsev, Oleksandr Shvetsov, Vasyl Stuzhenko and Artem Komisarchuk. First-year students of the programme «Bachelor of Philology. Germanic Languages and Literatures (including translation), the first language being English» had the opportunity to attend this premiere and to talk with one of the heroes of the film, Artem Komisarchuk. The first-year students were able to share their impressions of the screening at the meeting of the club «Linguocultural and Literary Studies» on 5 November, which was devoted to comparing screen adaptations of English-language literary works about wars in different historical periods with Ukrainian TV series about the current war.
Students of the first and second years of the programme «Bachelor of Philology. Germanic Languages and Literatures (including translation), the first language being English» took an active part in the events of the 8th TRANSLATORIUM Literature and Translation Festival, which was held in Khmelnytskyi on 19-21 September 2025.
For three days the festival became a genuine platform for conversations about translation as a tool of critical reflection on history, a means of restoring identity and a symbol of cultural liberation.
🗓️ The programme included about 20 events of various formats: talks, lectures, workshops, literary readings, book presentations, artistic and musical projects.
🖼️ A photo exhibition and a performance were separate events.
🌟 The special guests of the festival were Marcin Gaczkowski, Ostap Slyvynskyi, Dzvinka Pinchuk, Bohdan Stasiuk, Lesyk Panasiuk, Roksoliana Sviato and Yaroslava Strikha — well-known translators, literary scholars, poets, artists and researchers who shared their experience and inspired the participants to pursue new creative ideas.
🙌 Taking part in the festival was an important experience of professional growth for the students, as they were able to talk with well-known translators, join discussions about the role of translation in the modern world and gain inspiration for their own projects. The festival is organised by the NGO «TRANSLATORIUM» in partnership with the Department of Culture and Tourism of Khmelnytskyi City Council with the support of the International Renaissance Foundation.

As part of a meeting of the research club «Linguocultural and Literary Studies», students of years 1-3 of the programme «Bachelor of Philology. Germanic Languages and Literatures (including translation), the first language being English» attended the premiere of the play «Romeo and Juliet». The main stage presented to the audience the legendary love story that has moved the hearts of readers and theatregoers all over the world for several centuries. This new reading of the classics gave the students the opportunity not only to experience high art but also to see how contemporary theatre interprets the works of Shakespeare. The refined dramaturgy, the depth of feeling and the skill of the actors created an unforgettable atmosphere that combined academic reflection on the literary heritage with the emotional experience of the stage performance. We sincerely thank the company of the M. Starytskyi Khmelnytskyi Regional Academic Music and Drama Theatre for their outstanding performance and for the opportunity to touch the eternal classics in a contemporary reading. Shakespeare, relevant in any era, once again proved that true art knows no limits of time.
- STUDIO OF THE UKRAINIAN LANGUAGE AND PROFESSIONAL COMMUNICATION
A club for students of philology of Leonid Yuzkov Khmelnytskyi University of Management and Law and for everyone who wishes to improve their professional Ukrainian
Studio of the Ukrainian Language and Professional Communication is a space for students of philology as well as students of the programmes «Law», «Social Security» and «Public Administration and Management» who wish to develop their language competence and their skills of professional writing and oral communication.
Members of the studio master contemporary language norms, work on pronunciation and rhetoric, and learn to create professional documents, academic texts, speeches, presentations and communication strategies. The club is supervised by an Associate Professor of the Linguistics Department of Leonid Yuzkov Khmelnytskyi University of Management and Law.
Objective of the club
To promote the development of a high culture of Ukrainian speech and professional communication among students, especially students of philology, through practical classes, training sessions and creative projects.
Tasks
-improving the orthoepic, lexical and grammatical norms of the Ukrainian language;
-developing skills of professional oral and written communication;
-developing rhetorical skill and the culture of public speaking;
-teaching students of philology methods of text analysis, editing and language standardisation;
-becoming familiar with the language of law, management and the social sphere (interdisciplinary aspect);
-creating one’s own media texts (posts, articles, reviews, presentations);
-taking part in language competitions, debates, cultural and educational events of the university.
Main areas of work
1. Philological laboratory:
-text analysis;
-working with mistakes;
-editing and literary standardisation.
2. Professional Ukrainian:
-the language of documents (legal, administrative, social);
-language standards in the official and business style;
-building a professional vocabulary.
3. Communication training:
-speech technique, diction;
-developing public speaking and presentation skills;
-training in argumentation and holding discussions.
4. Creative projects:
-creating student columns and language sections;
-taking part in flash mobs for the Day of Ukrainian Language and Writing, the Day of Science, Human Rights Day and others;
-student readings, meetings with journalists, lawyers and editors.
